Kingsborough Pictures, founded in 1986 as an independent feature film production company, has offices in Los Angeles, California and Montreal, Canada. The principals are producer Pieter Kroonenburg and writer/producer Julie Allan. Pieter has produced over 35 feature films during his impressive career, 9 of which have been collaborations with producing partner Julie Allan.
The majority of Kingsborough’s films have been financed as international co-productions, using Pieter’s extensive Canadian and European connections to fund the projects. Since the opening of the Los Angeles office, Kingsborough is now developing bigger budget motion pictures in collaboration with major studios.
According to PLAYBACK magazine (Canada’s Variety), Kingsborough Greenlight Pictures, a Kingsborough subsidiary, ranked among the top three highest volume Canadian feature film production companies for 2 years running. Kingsborough’s films have also received considerable critical acclaim, and have been nominated for the Gemini Awards and have won 3 Genies (countless more Genie nominations).
The Company is particularly drawn to socially relevant and environmentally conscious stories. The principals leading this venture have made a number of such films, including: Bethune: The Making Of A Hero, a drama about a socialist doctor in China during Mao’s revolution; To Walk With Lions, an action/adventure story about the decimation of African wildlife; and in development The Cancer Conspiracy, another true story of pharmaceutical giants who aim to discredit effective alternative cancer treatments.
